Xcaret Celebrates the 10th Anniversary of the Festival of Life and Death Traditions
CANCÚN, RIVIERA MAYA, QUINTANA ROO (PRWEB) September 24, 2015 -- The Festival of Life and Death Traditions of Xcaret celebrates 10 years of doing honor to one of the most important traditions of our beloved Mexico, the Day of the Dead.
This tradition dates back to pre-Hispanic times and currently is celebrated through various rituals by more than 40 ethnic groups in the country that conceived death as a dialectical unity: the life-death cycle. On this important date, Mexicans celebrate the deceased, visit cemeteries and erect altars in homes waiting for the transitional return of the deceased to the land of the living.
Xcaret Experiencias celebrates every year by putting on a festival which is a celebration of color, music and tradition reflecting the enormous passion that the country has for this day, known as Hanal Pixán in the Mayan world.
Over the last 10 years it has become an important event to present to visitors who come to Cancun and the Riviera Maya. The festival has also been a fundamental reference in the construction of identity in Quintana Roo where people from around the country and the world coexist in one state, and where the attachment to traditions is a valuable lesson for current and future generations.
The event was declared an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO in 2003.
During the festival, there is a diversity of options for children, youth, adults and people of all ages to enjoy music, folk dance, pre-Hispanic dance, theater, debates, gastronomy, art and many artistic expressions. It highlights the presence of traditional cuisine which comes from different communities and regions, as well as their representative altars and craft expressions.
On this occasion, regarding music, we will enjoy the winners of the important Andean music prize, "Premio Mono Núñez", Night Duet, the Cruzao Ensemble, the Trio Ida y Vuelta, along with various artistic expressions of young talents from Colombia.
The activities, as every year, will be aimed at young children and the entire family with "Emiliano and the Train to the Underworld" by the Luna Morena Puppet Theater, "When an Alebrije Sings" by the La Trouppe Children’s Theater, "The Brave Dziú Bird" by the Aquelarre Theater and "The Legend of the Hangman" by Apolonio Mondragón.
For its part, the region of the Yucatan Peninsula stands out for shows like “Dead… And Loving It!”, by the family theater Itacate de Cuentos as part of their 25th anniversary, the Song of the Souls by the Pájaros de Tihosuco, the Airi folk music group, as well as the folkloric ballet of the children’s group Tumben Huhub and the group Sac Nictehá.
To close with a bang, the 10th anniversary of the Festival of Life and Death Traditions at Xcaret is highlighted with the presentation of Julieta Venegas on November 1st and 2nd in the Gran Tlachco.
