Cancún, Riviera Maya, Quintana Roo (PRWEB) January 22, 2016 -- Xcaret Park, Mexico’s most popular ecotourism park, has created an aviary that will serve as home for over 1,500 birds from 50 different representative species of Mexico. The aviary gives visitors the opportunity to come face to face with the colorful and diverse species that inhabit the sanctuary.
Xcaret Park recently opened the new attraction, which covers over 13,000 square meters of vegetation and features two waterfalls, as part of the park’s 25th anniversary celebrations. It has recently been recognized as "Best Refuge" by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums of Mexico A.C. (AZCARM).
The Aviary has a spiral structure, which runs downward and allows guests to see hundreds of birds flying, feeding and nesting between the habitat’s trees. Construction of the unique aviary began in 2007 and ended in 2015. The attraction was thoughtfully developed by specialists in wildlife, landscaping, design and construction.
Aviary visitors can see five types of vegetation from ecosystems representative of Mexico’s natural habitats: medium jungle, low jungle, halophytic vegetation, cloud forest, and shrublands. It has bridges at different levels to make observation and photography easy for all visitors.
The Aviary is supervised by specialists who know the habits of each of the species. For more than three years, Xcaret developed deep research on the population of birds in Quintana Roo and their main characteristics. The Aviary will be a place to deepen the knowledge of these species so that in the future it will be possible to contribute to species preservation.
