(PRWEB) April 17, 2015 -- In 2010, Xcaret was authorized by the Wildlife Department to operate as a Rescue and Rehabilitation Center for sea turtles. Here, Xcaret caters to all turtles that need rehabilitation.
The team of caretakers led by head veterinarian Ana Cecilia Negrete have developed special techniques to take care of injured sea turtles. For example, serious injuries can be safely treated with honey, which is a very effective natural antiseptic. The hospital also has a specialized health care program for turtles. Since its beginning, the program has given exemplary attention to problems of dehydration, injuries, attacks by other animals and humans who practice poaching.
The hospital works with the sea turtle conservation program developed by Flora, Fauna and Culture of Mexico, the philanthropic arm of Experiencias Xcaret. The conservation program ensures the safety of the sea turtle for the first 15 months of their lives. The conservation program also is responsible for the care of 13 nesting beaches along the Yucatan Peninsula. Of the nests that are protected every year, an average of 200 turtles remain at Xcaret to be kept and fed until they are able to survive in the wild.

The Turtle Hospital at Xcaret park has a dedicated team that strives to heal and rehabilitate the area's sea turtles that have been harmed by boats, fishing, dog and jaguar bites, anorexia and dehydration. Xcaret boasts an impressive recovery rate of 67% for the patients at its Turtle Hospital, thanks to an amazing team of experts along with top-notch care facilities.
