Xilium Virtual Assistants Take Part in Giving Immediate Assistance to Haiyan Survivors

Between November and December, the team organized three relief operations despite their daily work schedules.
The team of virtual assistants initiated a donation drive two days after the typhoon left the Philippine area of responsibility. Clients, family members, and friends showed their support through cash donations, different goods, and manual labor to get things done and set the idea rolling. Feeling the survivors need for quick assistance, they set the plan into motion with a short time of preparation, rushing to buy goods from the depleting stocks of even the largest supermarket chains.
The first relief operation was done nine days after Haiyan’s wrath, November 17, 2013, for some towns in Northern Iloilo. A thousand relief packs were divided for villages in Concepcion, Estancia, and Balasan. The second relief effort was on November 23, 2013 in the Province of Capiz, which was gravely devastated by the typhoon.
Xilium’s third relief operation happened on December 14, 2013 at San Dionisio, Iloilo. It was a Christmas party for students in Conchita Elementary School. This was the team’s way of boosting the morale of students and teachers, which suspended their classes for sometime.
Devastated may be the only word to summarize the state of the Philippines after typhoon Haiyan passed through the country on November 8. With 6,100 killed, 27,665 injured, and 1,779 missing, the indomitable Filipino spirit, though traumatized, proved to be stronger. The resiliency by which the whole nation has always been known shined through the little smiles, gentle laughs, and strength to move on.
Out of the rubble and chaos that came after typhoon Haiyan, the culture of bayanihan (a Filipino term for the spirit of kindness, goodwill, and camaraderie towards neighbors in times of need) arose to empower the hearts of Filipinos.
All those who were spared felt the need to give back by being a blessing of hope and emissaries of goodwill to their Filipino brothers left struggling by the typhoon.
