Xtra.ca is dead, long live DailyXtra.com
Toronto, ON (PRWEB) July 04, 2013 -- Pink Triangle Press (PTP), Canada’s leading gay and lesbian media organization, announced today the launch of its new brand Daily Xtra (dailyxtra.com). The new website replaces xtra.ca, Canada’s leading gay news site.
The primary reason for the launch is to strengthen PTP’s online presence with a more participatory design and a focus on the successful Xtra brand.
"This launch is the first step in our plan to become a multimedia, multiplatform centre for gay journalism and community discussion and activity," says PTP's digital CEO, David Walberg. "Daily Xtra will become a leading online hub for gay and queer communities, in Canada and beyond."
As part of its digital strategy, the Press sold its OUTtv shares in December 2012. Ken Popert, PTP’s president and executive director, said that the sale paved the way for increased investment in community journalism.
Earlier this year, PTP closed Fab magazine and sold its adult TV channel, HARDtv.
Fab publisher Brandon Matheson indicated that Fab’s spirit would not disappear but would show up in other channels. Daily Xtra merges the best of both worlds: the serious journalism of Xtra and the sexy, fun style of Fab.
Daily Xtra provides in-depth coverage of LGBT news, sexual politics, arts and culture, lifestyle, travel, and event listings on a national and global level. As the tagline “Everything Gay, Every Day” promises, visitors will find something new from a gay perspective every day.
With the birth of Daily Xtra, the Press is folding another long-standing brand, Guidemag.com. Guidemag.com is being rebranded as the travel section of Daily Xtra but can also be reached at dailyxtratravel.com. It will continue the legacy of The Guide magazine and Guidemag.com by providing gay travel news and features and insider reviews of gay bars, hotels and destinations all over the world.
The new Daily Xtra website is a major step forward for PTP’s mission to champion sexual freedom and build communities.
