Yahoo Finds It Difficult to Monetize Tumblr
(PRWEB) July 01, 2013 -- As per an update on June 13, 2013 on the SocialTimes, despite Tumblr’s rapid growth, its new owner Yahoo is finding it difficult to monetize this huge asset. One of reasons that’s been suggested to explain Yahoo’s difficulty in creating ad space on Tumblr is because most of its users don’t have much money to spend.
According to Samuel Junghenn, a highly regarded social media consultant and the founder of Think Big Online, Tumblr despite its fast growth is still behind Blogspot and WordPress in terms of traffic. “Added to this is the problem that most of its users are too young to have much spending capacity, thus devaluing the ad space of Tumblr.”
However, Samuel stressed on the fact that Tumblr is immensely popular with the demographic it attracts and both casual users and serious content creators spend a lot of time on the platform – almost thrice the amount of time, the users of other blogging platforms spend on theirs.
“After Facebook and Twitter, Tumblr is the third platform on which most social media professionals promote their clients. It’s immensely addictive and we’ve seen a number of campaigns go viral on Tumblr. Even though as a platform Tumblr is still young and attracts users who are in their early 20s, and are still completing their education, I feel that these users will stay loyal to the brand and will help make it a lucrative source of revenue for Yahoo.”
As a an expert on social media platforms, Samuel feels that the best way to go about monetizing Tumblr would be through sponsored content and pay-per-click inserts. “Tumblr can prove to a excellent place to advertise for youth oriented brands and as long as Yahoo doesn’t clutter the site with sponsored content and pop-ups.
