Yahoo & Forbes Express Their Love for StartX Founders
Mountain View, CA (PRWEB) January 08, 2014 -- This week, Yahoo acquired Aviate, a StartX company and the “Forbes 30 Under 30” list featured a handful of entrepreneurs from the same program.
With several founders garnering national attention, StartX, the nonprofit that runs an accelerator for Stanford-affiliated entrepreneurs, is proud to share several significant milestones heading into the new year.
“2013 was remarkable for our entrepreneurs and StartX. Many of us have been working heads down for the past few years, so it’s exciting to see those efforts come to light,” said Cameron Teitelman, founder and CEO of StartX.
Teitelman, age 25, began developing StartX while an undergraduate at Stanford University in 2009. To date, the organization supports a community of more than 370 entrepreneurs.
Of those business leaders, Paul Montoy-Wilson, William Choi, and Mark Daiss are the newest founders to build a company acquired by Yahoo, Inc., as announced by CEO Marissa Mayer, yesterday. Aviate is an “intelligent homescreen that simplifies your phone.” The deal marks the third StartX company purchased by Yahoo in the past seven months.
When Forbes magazine unveiled its prestigious list of “people who are changing the world” under the age of 30 earlier this week, StartX founders were well represented overall and as category leaders in healthcare, science, energy, and finance.
Below are StartX founders recognized by Forbes:
- Divya Nag, Stem Cell Theranostics and StartX Med, age 22: Science & Healthcare *category leader
- Raphael Rosen, Carbon Lighthouse, age 29: Energy
- Adam Kell, Flamestower, age 25: Energy
- Lucas Duplan, Clinkle, age 22: Finance *category leader
Among those listed, Divya Nag also serves on the StartX management team as Chief Product Officer and founder of StartX Med, the medical and biotechnology division of StartX.
In support of founders like Ms. Nag, StartX, Stanford University, and Stanford Hospitals & Clinics created the Stanford-StartX Fund, which began operations in September 2013.
Last November, StartX welcomed the 11th class of entrepreneurs to its experiential education program. The current batch includes Jackie Rotman, CEO and founder of EverybodyDanceNow, the first social enterprise startup to participate in the program.
A few weeks before 2013 closed out, Yahoo acquired Peer CDN, a content delivery network provider built by StartX founders.
