Yamaha Corporation of America Names Gilman Corporate Vice President
(PRWEB) September 30, 2016 -- Yamaha Corporation of America (YCA) today announced that Garth Gilman has been promoted to corporate vice president, effective October 1. He will remain the division manager of the company’s Band & Orchestral division and will continue to report to Senior Vice President Rick Young.
As an officer of the company, Gilman will take on new responsibilities at the corporate level, providing oversight to the company’s Music Education Department, as well as serving as a board member of Yamaha Music and Wellness Institute, Inc. (YMWI), which is a non-profit 501(c)(3) scientific research organization. YMWI has the mission to explore the benefits of creative musical expression and active music participation as a healthy lifestyle strategy.

Gilman joined YCA in 2003 as administration manager of the company’s Band & Orchestral division. In 2007, he was promoted to director of administration of what was then known as the Pro Audio & Combo division, and took over as assistant general manager of the division in 2009. He was named general manager, Band & Orchestral division in 2011, and promoted to vice president/general manager of that division in 2015.
Gilman has served as a process owner for the Yamaha Process Excellence Project since the program’s inception in 2004. He is also one of a select number of managers to have participated in accelerated development courses offered by Yamaha Corporation, including participation in Advanced Leadership Training (2006) and Yamaha Global Institute (2010).
Gilman graduated from Pepperdine University, where he earned a bachelor of science degree in management and a master’s degree in business administration. He also earned a certificate in Supply Chain Management from California State University, Fullerton and a Facility Director certificate from the Los Angeles County Office of Education.
