YMCA of Greenwich Installs State-of-the-Art Ultraviolet Disinfection System In Natatorium
Greenwich, Conn. (PRWEB) April 30, 2014 -- The YMCA of Greenwich announced the installation of a state-of-the-art ultraviolet disinfection system for its 50 meter pool. Neptune Benson, of Conventry, Rhode Island, a leading manufacturer of commercial aquatic filtration systems, ultraviolet disinfection systems and aquatics components completed the installation.
Ultraviolet Disinfection systems combat the corrosive by-product of chlorine disinfection, known as chloramines. Chloramines are responsible for the odor, irritation, athletic asthma, and enhanced corrosion at indoor pools. Chloramines are also responsible for drying out skin and causing “red eye”.
Ed Philipp CEO of the YMCA of Greenwich stated: “Our 50 meter pool is at the core of our incredibly successful aquatics program. Every ounce of water is utilized and enjoyed. Health codes regulate the maximum permissible levels of chloramines, which is often difficult to meet in pools like ours. Chloramines escape the pool in the form of a corrosive gas. We decided to reduce chloramines and improve air quality for our swimmers. We looked for an easy solution to this challenge and Neptune Benson’s ETS system works like a charm. Since the system has been installed the results are incredible. Consistent readings of zero chloramines are being recorded daily.”
Validated medium pressure UV has become the standard for improving air quality at indoor commercial pools. UV not only controls harmful chloramines, but also highly disinfects chlorine tolerant pathogens responsible for 75% of all Recreational Water Illnesses reported to the CDC. The CDC’s Model Aquatic Health Code includes recommendations for validated UV on all pools designed for children under the age of five and all therapy pools.
