YMCA of Greenwich’s Marlins Swim Team Strong Showing At National Competition
Greenwich, CT (PRWEB) April 22, 2014 -- The YMCA of Greenwich Marlins Swim Team recently competed in the Dolphin Showcase Classic, a national age group meet located in Clearwater, Florida. Over 100 teams were in attendance with 700 athletes from all over the United States.
The Showcase Classic has hosted several National Age-Group record holders and several Olympic Trial qualifiers previously.
This year the Marlins were represented by 7 swimmers: Liam Flaherty (9), Caterina Li (10), Andres Ruh (11), Marko Todorovic (9), Stephan Todorovic (13), Alex Ye (10), and Conway Zhou (11). The Marlins have attended the meet for the past 4 years and have watched as the meet has become increasing competitive and popular.
Highlights from the meet include: Alexander Ye’s (10) 50 backstroke with a time of 29.96 which earned him 3rd place at the meet and set a new CT Resident Record. Alex Ye would also go on to place 3rd in his 100 back with a time of 1.03.99 and set yet another CT Resident Record.
Caterina Li (10) placed 6th in her 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:19.07. Caterina also earned 5th place in her 50 breaststroke with a time of 35.50. Caterina placed top 10 in several of her events.
Liam Flaherty (9) and Marko Todorovic (9) made their debut at the Showcase Classic this year. Liam Flaherty placed 7th in his 500 free with a time of 6:42.73 and placed 8th in his 200 IM with a time of 2:44.14. Marko Todorovic placed 4th in his 500 free with a time of 6:14.50 and in his 200 free placed 7th with a time of 2:20.14.
Conway Zhou (11) placed 8th in his 200 fly with a time of 2:15.40 which is a new team record for the Marlins. Overall the Marlins had a fantastic week in Florida with many personal best times.
“The YMCA is incredibly proud to have our athletes perform so well,” said Kevin Stone, Head Age Group Coach. “It was a great experience to race and to watch other fantastic swimmers. We learned a lot in the process and are excited to get home and start training again.”
