Miami, Florida (PRWEB) June 21, 2014 -- Myanmar's emerging artists will be showcased at the Saatchi Gallery of Art June 26 – 29, 2014 in Yone Arts’ curated Booth #8.3 as part of START, an inaugural art fair showcasing emerging galleries from around the world and sponsored by Prudential. Yone Arts will exhibit almost 20 original paintings by the “Young Bloods” of Myanmar’s contemporary art scene whose work has never been seen in Europe before, and confronts such pressing global issues as deforestation, domestic violence, censorship and cultural identity.

“Myanmar is a country in which painting has been incubating over four decades of isolation and censorship during the military regime. This body of historically relevant works presents a unique and enduring opportunity to the serious collector."

“INFUSION: YOUNG BLOODS FROM MYANMAR” features the work of Kaung Su, Brang Li, Soe Naing, Nay Ye Than and Sandar Khine. According to Yone Arts Founder Paula Tin Nyo, “The Young Bloods group infuses hefty social issues with a sense of positivity, humor and wit – making them palatable and even seductive to a global audience. Myanmar is a country in which painting has been incubating over four decades of isolation and censorship during the military regime. This body of historically relevant works presents a unique and enduring opportunity to the serious collector.” Ms. Tin Nyo develops close relationships with her artists over time and cultivates their body of work, selecting only the best pieces for the curated exhibitions of Yone Arts.

In his “Last Stand” Series, Kaung Su creates apocalyptic images of deforestation from oil enamel, wood and charcoal. He introduces a cartoon-like hand to attract the attention of our youth and perhaps soften the blow of the object of its gesture. Bringing together influences as disparate as Disney and Anselm Kiefer, Kaung Su makes us look and then look again.

Sandar Khine presents her new “Canon of a Woman” series, in which the female form is empowered with stature and technology, as she returns the viewer’s gaze with the camera’s eye. Depiction of the nude human figure was strictly banned during the censorship years and Sandar Khine was one of the very few artists who had the passion and courage to pursue the study of the nude over these last decades. As such, she is a leader in the new group of female artists that are taking their place in the artistic lineage of Myanmar.

Nay Ye Than is a diaspora artist who expresses her broken past through the inescapable prism of the present. In her divided canvasses, Nay Ye Than inserts iconic objects of fashion, such as the stiletto, as architectural structure to organize her own interior life. Building on the Western obsession with the illusion of depth, Nay Ye Than defines depth as both spatial and psychological. In “Holofernes Revisited,” she uses a classic subject from Caravaggio and Gentilleschi to explore the relationship between violence and double identity.

Brang Li is the 20-something brat of the Young Bloods, who reinvents the ancient Myanmar tradition of line painting through his “Without Series.” Brang Li’s figures have no head to symbolize the inability to think for oneself and organize thought under an oppressive military regime. He applies smoke from a burning candle to his canvasses to create the atmospheric soot that serves as background to these haunting images.

Soe Naing is one of very few abstract expressionist painters in Myanmar. He survived the isolation and censorship years through developing a private language of calligraphic marks, which shifted with each painting. After the Yone Arts’ “Intermission on Stage” installation in Singapore, in which Soe Naing created a reverse painting from within a large black box lined with his 10,000 diary sketches, his work has markedly shifted. In the Yone Arts booth at the START fair, both his prior work and his post-Intermission work will be exhibited and available for acquisition.

Yone Arts will exhibit “INFUSION: YOUNG BLOODS FROM MYANMAR” in Booth #8.3, First Floor, Saatchi Gallery, Duke of York's HQ, King's Road London SW3 4RY. START fair Vernissage takes place 6:30 – 9 PM, 25 June, by Invitation Only. Regular Fair hours are 26– 29 June 2014

Additional information about the START FAIR is available on the website: http://www.startartfair.com.
