Yone Arts Presents “MYANMAR ART CROSSING”
Miami, FL (PRWEB) January 07, 2015 -- Paula Tin Nyo, Founder & CEO of Yone Arts (yonearts.com) and Anita Heriot, President of Pall Mall Art Advisors (pallmallartadvisors.com), are pleased to announce “Myanmar Art Crossing”, the premiere of a historically relevant group exhibition of work by artists from Myanmar during the LA Art Show at the LA Convention Center, Booth #1117. “Myanmar Art Crossing” represents the first curated group exhibition in a major international art fair in the United States, focusing on the artistic expression of Myanmar during the military regime years of isolation and censorship. The LA Art Show has become the most internationally diverse art platform in the Western world, bringing in the largest groupings of Korean, Chinese and Japanese galleries outside of Asia. “Myanmar Art Crossing” extends the range of the LA Art Show to the emerging country of Myanmar, and the unique proposition of collecting art from the hottest emerging market in Asia, and arguably the world.
This exhibition represents the finest contemporary art of the country of Myanmar, which has skyrocketed into the international limelight since 2012, when its 40-year military regime stepped down from power.
“I am honored to have the opportunity to share the long-buried treasure of Myanmar’s artistic talent and the authenticity and stories of my homeland after four decades of distance and opacity between Myanmar and the rest of the world. ‘Myanmar Art Crossing’ represents the crossing of barriers of time, distance and cultures,” remarked Ms. Tin Nyo. Ms. Tin Nyo is a third generation artist and intellectual from Myanmar, whose grandfather, Edward Law Yone, was the editor and publisher of The Nation, the influential post-colonial newspaper of Myanmar prior to the military regime.
“We chose this work and these artists for the LA Art Show to launch 2015, a historical year for Myanmar’s first democratic elections. Myanmar has served as an incubator for the Arts for 40 years and our exhibition is timed to open the hatch of our creative talent,” stated Ms. Tin Nyo. Since the suspension of US trade sanctions, Ms. Tin Nyo has made over a dozen trips back to her country to personally meet artists from her homeland in their private studios and select artwork for this monumental groundbreaking premiere at the LA Art Show 2015.
Ms. Tin Nyo and Ms. Heriot would like to thank Mr. Ahal Besorai of Forefront Myanmar for his efforts and interest in facilitating the “crossing” of the contemporary artists of Myanmar into the rest of the world.
“Myanmar Art Crossing”, YONE ARTS Booth #1117, will showcase a diverse group of talented artists and their work that represent the thriving contemporary art scene of Myanmar. They include Aung Htoo, Brang Li, Kaung Su, Khin Zaw Latt, Mor Mor, Myint San Myint, Nay Yay Than, Ohn Ohn, Sandar Khine, Soe Naing and Zwe Yan Naing.
Featured are large scale nudes by the matriarch of female artists in Myanmar, Sandar Khine, who is rapidly gaining international recognition for her “Nude with Camera” series, a series of paintings of plus-sized nude women staring back at the viewer through the lens of a Canon camera. Sandar Khine, the matriarch of female artists in Myanmar, and her audacious, censored paintings have been hotly discussed in several articles this year, notably the New York Times December article, “New Freedom for Myanmar Artists.”
Artist Ohn Ohn, another female painter, who recently exhibited at the Jacaranda Music event in Culver City, is known for her luminous, layered oil paintings that combine Buddhist imagery with her own dream life. Also included are paintings by artist Soe Naing, Myanmar’s most respected abstract expressionist, who performed “Intermission on Stage” last January in Singapore to an audience of thousands, by removing black paint from within a blackened railroad car sized box, providing a glimpse of his 10,000 diary sketches. The work of artist Myint San Myint using Myanmar script and imagery of children will also be on view, alongside the work of prison artist Htein Lin. Also exhibiting for the first time in the United States is artist Kaung Su, who creates multi-media work on the theme of environmental devastation. Khin Zaw Latt’s ethereal “Buddha Series” will dominate one wall of the exhibition and drew significant attention at Art Basel Miami in 2014.
