Young Students Become Published Authors With TikaTok, Digital Tool From Pearson
New York (PRWEB) December 03, 2013 -- Every student has a story. Now teachers around the country can help students share their stories with the world, becoming real published authors through the web-based publishing application of TikaTok.com from Pearson. With this classroom digital publishing tool for project-based learning, elementary students can write, illustrate and publish their own books while building Common Core writing, creativity, and critical thinking skills.
Launching just in time for teachers to find easy project-based common core aligned ideas for the holiday season, the site is available to teachers through a tiered subscription model that starts as low as $19 a year. TikaTok takes teachers and students through the writing and publishing process. Integrating project-based learning with Common Core State Standards, the tool’s writing prompts reinforce literacy, science, and social studies concepts.
“Developing strong writing abilities is a key goal of the Common Core State Standards,” said Pearson Senior Vice President Lynda Cloud. “And publishing with digital tools is a standard at every grade level. What better way for young learners to build those skills than by planning, writing, and publishing their own stories.”
Through an easy-to-use online interface, teachers choose a StorySpark project template, searchable by standard, subject, grade, and keyword, and assign it to the class. Then students work to create their own books, personalizing their work by uploading photographs and drawings.
Teachers can review student work throughout the writing process to assess student understanding and monitor progress. Finally, students publish their projects as an eBook or hard-cover or soft-cover book to keep or share with classmates, family and friends.
