Yourwellness Magazine Follows Up Potential Curb on Junk Food Multibuys
London, UK (PRWEB UK) 30 July 2013 -- According to minutes from a Department of Health working group, revealed on July 2nd, big retailers and food companies may be required to set aside a percentage of marketing spend for "healthier" products instead of promoting fizzy drinks, confectionery and crisps with multibuys. The "high level" Department of Health working group includes Mars UK, Tesco, caterers Sodexo and consumer watchdog Which?.
Government officials fear that multibuys on junk food are feeding the obesity crisis costing the NHS billions of pounds, and they may also introduce a new code to restrict the use of cartoon characters on food that is high in sugar and salt. Mary Creagh, Labour's shadow environment secretary, commented that supermarkets would only act if new legislation was introduced, noting, “The Government has already promised there will be no new legislation in this area. The supermarkets will only do what they decide to do.” (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/newsbysector/retailandconsumer/10155848/Unhealthy-multibuys-targeted-in-new-obesity-crackdown.html)
With this in mind, Yourwellness Magazine explored how parental obesity can affect children also. According to Yourwellness Magazine, “Once you get set in your ways it can be very difficult to break old habits. In that zone of lethargy and comfort eating you’re liable to pack on the pounds very quickly. And if you have children, you are likely to pass on those bad habits and unhealthy lifestyle to them. Now your obesity has become not only a burden on your health – but the health of your children too.” (http://www.yourwellness.com/2013/03/how-obesity-can-affect-your-children-too/)
Yourwellness Magazine commented that while governing bodies can put forward plans of action, the problem is really down to every individual parent to ensure that they and their children are eating right and getting enough exercise. Yourwellness Magazine explained that putting the whole family on the same programme of healthy eating and regular exercise is the simplest individual solution to the child obesity crisis, noting that the important thing is for the whole family to come together and encourage each other to stick to it.
