Youth and Professionals Interact at Washington Metro Area Career Workshop Hosted by the Edusei Foundation
(PRWEB) July 24, 2014 -- Dr. Kwame Bawuah Edusei, a diplomat, entrepreneur, medical practitioner, and philanthropist, opened the workshop with an admonition to the youth to persevere in their endeavors to achieve their cherished aims in life. He also advised the youth to stay away from social vices and also abstain from premarital sex. He said, “This workshop will afford you the opportunity of acquiring life surviving skills that will equip you to withstand the storms in your career path.” Professionals in the fields of Business, Medicine, Finance, Law, Information Technology, Engineering, and Nursing were on hand to provide group and one-on-one counseling to the youth.
Paul Kyei Ofori, a Georgetown University graduate and coordinator of the workshop took the youth through diverse technological advancements and various fields of technology that captivated the attention of the audience.
Dr. Anna Minta, a pediatrician trained at the Johns Hopkins Hospital followed with a compelling presentation on professions in the sciences with particular reference to medicine.
Dr. Charles Osei Dankwah, a chemical engineer, industrialist, and businessman, educated the youth on the prospects of entrepreneurship and the skills to sustain an enterprise.
Annette Ofori, a George Washington University graduate, accountant with Price Waterhouse Coopers LLP, and attorney, capped the presentations with a briefing on ethics in the profession, accounting laws, careers in accounting and finance, and jobs prospects in the field of study.
After the series of presentations, they broke into groups according to professions for one-on-one and group sessions to enable the youth to ask questions pertaining to their areas of interest. Kevin Bonsu, a prospective college student was highly elated and remarked, “This is an awesome experience and I can’t believe it is all free.” Priscilla Boamah, a Radford University freshman said, “I have found myself a mentor today and I wish there could be regular workshops like this in my community.”
Mrs. Evangeline Bawuah-Edusei, a co-founder of the foundation, presented certificates of participation to the over 150 young people who attended the event. She then closed the workshop by expressing her profound appreciation to the parents of the young ones who paved the way for them to be part of the event. Similar appreciation went to the professionals who sacrificed everything within them to come and mentor the young ones, as well as share their personal experiences and stories to motivate the youth.
The mission of the Edusei Foundation is to facilitate youth development in the United States, Ghana, and the Diaspora in a positive manner to improve their knowledge, behavior, and health. Moreover, we collaborate with other non-governmental organizations to empower women and children.
The next Dr. Kwame Bawuah-Edusei and Edusei Foundation-sponsored youth workshop is scheduled to be held in New York on August 2nd, 2014.
