Zachys Wine Auction's "The Vault: Part I" Achieves High Estimate During First "White Glove" Sale of the Fall Season
Hong Kong, China (PRWEB) September 14, 2016 -- Zachys Hong Kong kicked off the fall season of 2016 with extraordinary results from “The Vault: Part I” – one of the most treasured single-owner collections in the world. The sale was 100% sold, achieving a staggering HK$45.4 million (US$5.9 million) and exceeding the pre-sale high estimate! The saleroom saw aggressive bidding from clients across the globe; from Europe to North and South America as well as the Asia Pacific with very strong support from collectors in Hong Kong. These stellar results reaffirm that true fine wine collectors value quality and provenance above all else. What’s more, 66% of the lots sold to a packed room at the Mandarin Oriental; these lots accounted for 73% of the auction by value, showing once again how only Zachys fills a saleroom with the world’s top auction bidders.
LEGENDARY BORDEAUX
A total of 151 lots of the finest and rarest blue-chip Bordeaux achieved HK$14,406,000 (US$1,858,839), making up more than one-third of the total results. Lafite, Lafleur, Le Pin and Pétrus were the stars of this sale and took centre stage. One of the top lots--an Imperial (6L) of Château Lafite Rothschild 1959, marked its debut in an auction in Asia and realized HK$490,000 (US$63,226), which soared above its high estimate and hammered at the highest price ever recorded; 6 magnums (1.5L) of Château Lafleur 1982, also reached an outstanding result of HK$490,000 (US$63,226); 3 double magnums (3L) of Pétrus 1982 also exceeded their high estimates and realized HK$392,000 (US$50,581); and two 6-pack original wood cases of Le Pin 2000 sold close to its high estimate at HK$294,000 (US$37,935). It goes to show that great Bordeaux never goes out of style!
THE HEART OF THE VAULT - BURGUNDY
Burgundy spearheaded the sale, featuring more than 550 lots from some of the crème de la crème of Burgundy producers. These Burgundy stalwarts brought in a total of HK$29,868,563 (US$3,854,008) at this auction and represented more than 65% of the sale. 5 bottles with original wood case of Romanée-Conti 1996 took the top spot, selling at HK$490,000 (US$63,226). Other offerings from DRC, including La Tâche 1990, La Tâche 1996, DRC Assortment Cases from 1991, 1993 and 1996 vintages also reached new heights. Other notable Burgundy producers such as Henri Jayer, Leroy, Leflaive and d’Auvenay also found buyers, with bidding for Leroy being particularly energetic.
BURGUNDY, BURGUNDY, MORE BURGUNDY- d'AUVENAY, HENRI JAYER & LEROY
Top collectors from all around the world continued to chase after rare bottlings from Burgundy. Domaine d’Auvenay superseded its high estimates, including 6 bottles of Puligny Montrachet Les Folatières Domaine d'Auvenay 1989 which sold for HK$53,900 (US$6,955) - more than double its high estimate. 12 bottles with original wood case of Mazis Chambertin Domaine d'Auvenay 1996 was the prized d’Auvenay lot in this sale realizing HK$208,250 (US$26,871). The greatest wines from the late Henri Jayer achieved superb results, including 6 bottles of Vosne Romanée Cros Parantoux Henri Jayer 1988 which sold at HK$367,500 (US$47,419). An incredible 120+ lots of Leroy came up to the auction block next. More than 70% of the Leroy sold higher than their pre-sale high estimates, including the Chambertin Domaine Leroy 1991 which realized HK$220,500 (US$28,452) and Mazis Chambertin Maison Leroy 1985 which sold at HK$159,250 (US$20,548).
