Zaggo, Inc. Helps Hundreds of Patients and Caregivers Manage Illness or Injury
Newton, Mass. (PRWEB) September 14, 2016 -- Zaggo, Inc. today announced the expanded availability of its ZaggoCare System®, the only product that provides patients and families with the valuable information and organizational tools needed to become more engaged, effective members of their medical teams. The System has helped hundreds of patients and their family caregivers navigate the countless challenges that come with managing illness or injury, through physicians groups, hospitals and employers, as well as direct-to-consumer via the Zaggo website. 100% of the profits from sales of the ZaggoCare System are donated to the Zachary Carson Brain Tumor Fund for innovative pediatric brain tumor research.
Research indicates that 40-80% of what patients hear in the doctor’s office is forgotten immediately and almost 50% of information that is remembered is remembered incorrectly (1). This was the experience of Zaggo founder Roberta Carson when her teenage son Zachary was diagnosed with a rare, terminal brain tumor in 2005. Thrust into an unknown and deeply emotional situation, Roberta was often overwhelmed by all that was required of her as Zach’s caregiver – learning new medical terms too difficult to pronounce, making treatment decisions under duress, managing increasingly complex schedules and medication regimens, and eventually turning the family’s den into a mini-nursing home. What’s more, medical errors are the third leading cause of death in the U.S., behind heart disease and cancer, with more than 250,000 deaths per year. And many of these errors are due to poor information quality and a breakdown in communication.
“After Zach died, I started Zaggo to provide patients and families with the valuable information and organizational tools I found useful caregiving for Zach, and today the System represents what I learned directly through my own experiences plus many years of research and collaboration with other patients, doctors and many others in the medical community,” said Carson. “Now, for the first time, people can better navigate through the healthcare system and stay organized which can improve outcomes and reduce stress.”
The ZaggoCare System was created for patients and families dealing with anything from acute to chronic disease, as well as serious injury. It includes the ZaggoCare Guide, also available in digital format, with 120 pages of invaluable tips and easy-to-follow advice to help patients and their caregivers get the most from their medical care. The System also includes a tote bag with organizational components including notebook and accordion file critical for tracking symptoms, appointments and test results.
“The ZaggoCare System has helped me enormously,” said Lori Krasner. “As a caregiver to my husband who suffers from Parkinson’s Disease, the ZaggoCare System helped me regain control of my life as it spun out of control soon after he was diagnosed. I will forever be grateful for the ZaggoCare System. It made, and continues to make, the seemingly unmanageable, manageable.”
“What follows a sudden diagnosis, especially a life-threatening one, is as scary and emotional as you’d expect,” said Lewis Levy, MD, FACP, Chief Medical Officer, Best Doctors. “We know that good patient-doctor communication leads to better care – and we know how devastating a communication breakdown can be, yet so many medical errors due to miscommunications still occur. Solutions that help patients and their caregivers be their own best health advocates are necessary and can help bring order and clarity to an otherwise chaotic and stressful time.”
