Zixi Helps New York Racing Association Achieve Fast, Synchronized Delivery of Live Horse Races Over the Internet
Waltham, Mass (PRWEB) May 23, 2017 -- Zixi today announced that the New York Racing Association (NYRA), which operates the largest thoroughbred horse-racing tracks in New York, adopted the Zixi Platform as an alternative to costly fiber-network distribution, and to stream live races to multiple locations over the open internet. By deploying industry-standard broadcast hardware embedded with the Zixi Platform, NYRA achieved high-quality, synchronized broadcasts with a streamlined, cost-effective solution.

NYRA operates Aqueduct Racetrack, Belmont Park, and Saratoga Race Course. At each venue, attendees can bet on NYRA races or races on tracks across the country and collect their winnings. Viewers can also wager online through the advanced deposit wagering platform called NYRA Bets while watching live on both regional and national TV stations. The racing association sought to reduce operational costs by implementing a cost-effective video-over-IP solution, and employed the Zixi Platform to broadcast races over the internet without compromising quality or delivery time.
Zixi OEM partner, ATEME, includes the Zixi Platform in its industry-standard broadcast hardware. NYRA installed ATEME video encoders at each race track, and ATEME decoders at each distribution location.

With Zixi software at each contribution and distribution point, NYRA implemented Zixi Broadcaster in the cloud to connect each location. The Zixi Platform’s robust UDP-based streaming protocol allowed NYRA to synchronize delivery with predictably low latency, regardless of distance.
Additionally, the Zixi Platform features advanced error correction and adaptive-bit-rate streaming to preserve video quality when network conditions are volatile. The platform also supports 256-bit AES transport encryption. For NYRA, this enabled secure live-video streaming, in broadcast quality, to ten different sites for five hours daily over unmanaged Internet connections. The integrated encoders and decoders combined with Zixi Broadcaster in the cloud was the perfect solution for distributing video to multiple locations with split-second timing.
Implementing the Zixi Platform provided the NYRA with an alternative to costly managed-fiber networks: existing internet connections. With Zixi, NYRA simplified its broadcast workflow and greatly reduced overhead costs while maintaining a perfect experience for its customers.
