FORT COLLINS, CO, USA (PRWEB) July 29, 2015 -- Zubaida Bai founder of ayzh has been named by Asia Society part of the Class of 2015 Asia 21 Young Leaders, the preeminent network of young leaders from across the Asia Pacific, representing the private, public, and nonprofit sectors.
As a young girl growing up in India, Zubaida vowed that her life would be different from the girls and women she saw around her; suffering from poor health, financial hardship, with little hope for change. She founded ayzh in 2009 with a Masters in Mechanical Engineering and an MBA in Global Social and Sustainable Enterprise.
In 2009 Zubaida was chosen as a TED fellow, in 2013 the World Economic Forum honored her as one of 199 Young Global Leaders. The JANMA Clean Birth Kit in a Purse, the first ayzh product, provides women with a hygienic and sterile environment in which to give birth. So far over 100,000 kits have been sold worldwide.
Based in the US and Chennai, India, ayzh’s proven, sustainable B2B model targets an untapped market of health institutions as a pathway to scale, encourages facility-based deliveries, and employs and empowers local Indian women in the process. The company is now significantly scaling operations, owned and powered by women for women, to reach 6 million women over the next 5 years.
The Zero to Five Amplify Challenge, IDEO.org, and OpenIDEO has recently chosen five top products and concepts with the most potential to benefit from Amplify’s design support and funding. Out of the five, SHISHU Healthy Newborn Kit, a new product from ayzh, is one of two ideas that will receive in-depth design support and pilot funding.
ayzh will attend the special 10th anniversary Asia 21 Summit in Hong Kong, December 1-4. The summit will celebrate the achievements of the first decade, explore innovative ways to leverage the Asia 21 network for greater impact, and form special Asia 21 Task Forces to address critical issues facing the region.
“We exist as a commitment to save lives and change lives, one product at a time, making one happy woman at a time.” Zubaida Bai
Asia 21 Young Leaders are selected through a highly competitive process based on outstanding achievement, commitment to public service, and a proven ability to make the world a better place. The 32 young leaders who make up the Asia 21 Class of 2015 represent 22 countries and are divided almost evenly between men and women. Fifty percent work in the private sector, 44 percent in the nonprofit sector, and 6 percent in the public sector.
“The new class of Asia 21 Young Leaders is a remarkable group. We are excited to introduce these leaders of the Asia-Pacific region to the Asia 21 Network, where they will find mentors, potential collaborators, and, we hope, new friends,” said Asia Society President and CEO Josette Sheeran. “We welcome this passionate group to the Asia 21 family, and look forward to the contributions they make to the public good in the coming years.”
