Coptic Orphans to Present Dr. Farouk El-Baz with 'Leading by Example Award' at 25th Anniversary Gala in U.S.
(PRWEB) October 08, 2014 -- Coptic Orphans will present former NASA scientist and visionary planner Dr. Farouk El-Baz with the Leading by Example Award at its 25th Anniversary Gala in Reston, VA on Oct. 11.
"Dr. Farouk El-Baz is our choice to receive the Leading by Example Award because of his vision for a prosperous, tolerant, and developed Egypt, and because of his remarkable scientific achievements, " said Coptic Orphans founder and executive director Nermien Riad.
Dr. Farouk El-Baz's many scientific accomplishments include playing a key role in NASA's Apollo 15 mission. Dr. El-Baz also served as science advisor to the late president of Egypt, Anwar El-Sadat, and he is now on the Advisory Council of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.
"I'm particularly proud to present the Leading by Example Award to Dr. Farouk El-Baz because he exemplifies the Egyptian diaspora's contributions to the United States and the world, yet he also embodies the deep love that people with roots in Egypt have for their cultural heritage and the motherland," Riad said.
Dr. Farouk El-Baz is currently director of the Center for Remote Sensing and research professor at the departments of Archaeology and Electrical & Computer Engineering, and associated faculty at the Department of Earth and Environment, Boston University.
Past recipients of the Leading by Example Award include prominent Egyptian businessman Naguib Sawiris and former U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs Liz Cheney. On Sept. 28, 2014, His Holiness Pope Tawadros II accepted the award in person before an audience of 500 guests at the Coptic Orphans 25th Anniversary Gala in Canada.
Coptic Orphans' 25th Anniversary Gala in the United States will take place on Saturday, Oct. 11, starting with a reception at 6:30pm followed by dinner at 7:30pm, at the Hyatt Regency at Reston Tower Center at 1800 Presidents St., Reston, Virginia.
