Although EDM systems have played a transformative role in enterprise and government for some time now, there are many organizations that have yet to shift from paper processes and take advantage of the speed, efficiency, cost savings and other benefits that digital workflows offer.
These organizations often have storage rooms or warehouses full of thousands of bankers boxes packed with documents that must be made digital and uploaded into an EDM system. These “backfiles” need to be prepped, barcoded for tracking purposes, and then run through high-speed, high-volume platform scanners. Once the documents are converted to digital images, metadata required for indexing, classification and search is captured automatically by Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software, or manually by data entry personnel.
