Nashville Tapped as Host City for the American College of Lifestyle Medicine’s Annual Conference
Nashville, TN (PRWEB) January 15, 2015 -- Country Music Capital Nashville, TN will play host to Lifestyle Medicine 2015, the annual conference of the American College of Lifestyle Medicine (ACLM). Set for November 1-4, 2015 at the Renaissance Nashville Hotel, this CME accredited event, which has doubled in attendance each of the past four years, will be headlined by ACLM President David Katz, MD, MPH, recently named to the top 25 of the 100 Most Influential People in Health & Fitness.
This year’s conference theme, Integrating Evidence into Practice, is timely. “Health care practitioners are looking for solutions. We know what the evidence shows—that poor, and oftentimes inevitable, lifestyle choices are responsible for 80% of chronic disease. What we struggle with is how to put this evidence into action in light of our disease care system,” said Planning Committee Chairman Amanda McKinney, MD, FACOG. “The focus of this year's conference is to help those in attendance to put evidence into action. We’ll have an outstanding line-up of speakers who will share their collective experiences on what works and what doesn't in helping people adopt healthier lifestyle behaviors.”
Frank Hu, MD, MPH, PhD, Professor of Nutrition and Epidemiology at the Harvard School of Public Health and Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School will join Dr. Katz and other global leaders as conference keynotes, with 25 track sessions presented by the foremost experts in the field rounding out the line-up. The event will feature networking opportunities with industry leaders, the annual ACLM membership meeting, fitness events and an expansive pavilion showcasing corporate sponsors and exhibitors.
Registration and Speaker Call for Presentations (CFP) officially opened this week for Lifestyle Medicine 2015. Registrants may take advantage of the New Year’s 40% discount, with special promotional pricing also available for multiple and trainee registrants. Those interested in being part of the conference faculty are encouraged to respond to the CFP on or before April 13, 2015.
“Our previous conferences have been focused on the evidence, particularly the evidence of plant-based nutrition,” explained McKinney. “This year we are opening the umbrella wider to include more instruction about the benefits of mindfulness, physical activity and coaching and motivational interviewing. We’ll showcase evidence-based solutions but also want practitioners to walk away with new ideas about how to alter their practices, having new tools in their bags to help patients actually improve their health and make those lifestyle changes they so desperately need.”
