Off the Moving Truck and into a Rugby Ruck; Two Great Giant Movers Selected to 2014 Women’s Collegiate All American Team
San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) July 18, 2014 -- San Francisco moving company, Great Giant, a division of the national moving company Gentle Giant, is proud to recognize two of their employees as members of the 2014 Women’s Collegiate All American Team. University of California Berkeley student athletes and Great Giant movers Jessica Lewis and Rose (Rosie) Russell were two of the 25 players selected to the team’s roster out of the over 100 athletes that participated in regional combine camps in May and June.
This weekend on July 18th and 20th, the WCAA team will face the All-Ontario team in Toronto. While this is a new experience for Lewis and Russell, they feel ready for the challenge partly because they have UCal Berkeley coach and Great Giant Moving Company manager Brandon Sparks there to coach and mentor them.
Since Sparks opened the San Francisco division of Gentle Giant Moving Company, he has found the secret to recruiting success; hiring athletes to work as movers. According to professional mover and award winning collegiate rugby coach Sparks, “Athletes make terrific movers because they have discipline, a strong work ethic, work best as a team unit, and above all they love a physical and mental challenge. The athletes we’ve hired over the years at Great Giant, including the USA Women's Rugby National Team’s Katy Augustyn, have integrated the intense work we do on the trucks every day into their rugby training regimen.”
“Brandon Sparks has had a huge impact on my rugby career,” said Russell of the Cal coach and Great Giant manager. “And I love the atmosphere of the team. We encourage each other and work out with each other outside of practice. It’s a great community.”
Since Gentle Giant opened in Boston back in 1980, Founder and CEO Larry O'Toole has hired athletes to work on the trucks with the intent of creating a company culture similar to that of a sports team's; focusing on teamwork, strength, and enthusiasm. Today, all 20 of Gentle Giant's offices are stocked with world class athletes, including rowers, rugby players, wrestlers, basketball players, marathon runners and more.
Great Giant Moving Company is so proud of Jessica Lewis and Rosie Russell that they have sponsored their trip to Canada with a donation to their GoFundMe pages, which can be found here (Jessica Lewis) and here (Rosie Russell).
