The Last Well Launches Pass the Bottle Campaign to Raise $2 Million for Clean Water in Liberia
Sulphur Springs, TX (PRWEB) December 18, 2013 -- Would you buy a bottle of dirty water for 10 bucks? Probably not. But what if this purchase could help bring clean water and the Gospel to the entire population of Liberia? And what if you passed the bottle to someone else for the same amount, and they then repeated the process? That’s the idea behind the new Pass the Bottle campaign from The Last Well, which launched December 12 and aims to bring fresh water border-to-border in Liberia during the next decade.
“Everywhere you go, you see people carrying bottles filled with clean water, so when you see someone with a bottle of dirty water it’s a conversation starter because people think, ‘I wouldn’t drink that!’” said Todd Phillips, founder of The Last Well. “It brings home the reality that more than a million people in Liberia struggle every day without access to the fresh water we take for granted.”
The Pass the Bottle campaign was conceived by a group of young adults from the DFW metroplex, who joined The Last Well’s trip to Liberia this past summer to see how drilling wells and sharing the Gospel has transformed more than 400,000 lives. Phillips shared their story:
“A 26 year old law student came back from Liberia and said, ‘You've got all these people that give 10, 20, 50, or 100 thousand dollars. I can't do that. I can't buy a well, but I can buy a shovel. How can people my age make a difference?’”
The Pass The Bottle campaign was that answer.
Each person who buys a bottle will be able to track its progress in real time via the Pass the Bottle interactive map at http://passthebottlenow.org. This not only gets the donor more involved than in a typical charitable donation, but also enables them to see who purchased their bottle and where it is currently. Such interaction will help drive the campaign toward the fundraising goal of $2 million.
“The Pass the Bottle campaign is different because when someone donates a bottle, they’ll get to see its entire journey from their computer, tablet or phone,” Phillips said. “One bottle passed 100 times changes 100 lives.”
The Pass the Bottle campaign will expand to cities nationwide in Spring 2014, enabling even more people to join the fight for clean water in Liberia.
