Stevens Finishes Most Successful Year in Program History Ranked 13th in the Directors’ Cup Standings

The National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) released the final Learfield Sports Division III Directors’ Cup standings on Friday, and Stevens Institute of Technology finished the year at No. 13 – 25 spots higher than the department’s previous highest finish of 38th in both 2008-09 and 2009-10. For the year, Duck teams compiled 626.0 points as a total of 12 programs reached National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) postseason competition.

Stevens Thoracic Catheter Senior Design Team Takes 1st place at Regional ISPE Competition

A Senior Design team at Stevens Institute of Technology is working to alleviate pain and other complications that often arise during thoracic surgeries. Five undergraduate Biomedical Engineering students have invented a novel thoracic catheter that overcomes issues of existing catheter design and introduces a potentially profitable new product for the marketplace.

Alan Blumberg Invited by UNESCO to Study the Impact of Coastal Urban Environments

The Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission has invited Blumberg to collaborate with the scientists and professionals at IOC/UNESCO as part of his sabbatical this spring. Dr. Alan Blumberg, Professor and Director of the Center for Maritime Systems at Stevens Institute of Technology, is preparing to embark on a six week sabbatical to Europe and the Middle East, to study coastal megacities and their interaction with the marine environment. Blumberg will work at the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in Paris and with scientists at the University of Bologna in Bologna, Italy. In addition, Dr. Blumberg will meet with faculty at the Israel Oceanographic & Limnological Research of Hebrew University in Eilat, Israel.

Stevens and International Space University Expand International Partnership

The study, dubbed “Colleges Worth Your Investment,” was conducted for Bloomberg BusinessWeek. In New Jersey, Stevens and Princeton University took the top two rankings in terms of ROI for students. Stevens also boasts the third highest graduation rate in the state.
