Klinedinst Attorneys Successfully Defend Complex Employment Case for Aquarium of the Pacific

A former mammologist for the Aquarium of the Pacific filed an employment lawsuit against her former employer, claiming that the Aquarium failed to accommodate her after she was injured on the job. Her lawsuit alleged disability discrimination, wrongful termination, and violations of FMLA, FEHA, the California Family Rights Act, and common law. Klinedinst attorneys Greg Garbacz and Jasmin Morad, representing the Aquarium, filed a Motion for Summary Judgment, asking the Court to dismiss the case since the Aquarium had acted appropriately and in excess of what was legally required. The Court agreed, granting the Motion for Summary Judgment and dismissing the case in its entirety.

Greg A. Garbacz Wins Verdict for Renewable Energy Provider in Case Alleging Retaliation and Disability Discrimination

Appearing before an Orange County Superior Court jury, Klinedinst Shareholder Greg Garbacz successfully defended his renewable energy company client in a complex employment trial. The Plaintiff, who was part of a previously-planned layoff, sued his former employer, claiming disability discrimination and retaliation. After a two week trial, the members of the jury disagreed, finding for the defense on all five causes of action. In a recent motion, the Court awarded recovery of nearly $35,000 in legal costs against the Plaintiff, bringing this two year case to a close.

San Diego Attorney Art Moreau Helps Rebuild Orphanage Destroyed in Haiti Earthquake

Over the holidays, Klinedinst shareholder Art Moreau and 20 other volunteers flew to Haiti to spend a week working on an orphanage that was virtually destroyed by the earthquake. The orphanage, run by Children's Heritage Fund, is home to about 60 kids. The volunteers spent their holidays digging foundations for three dormitories, building a new shower facility, and rehabilitating and painting existing structures. Even though they missed holidays with friends and loved ones, it was a truly rewarding experience for all involved.

Klinedinst Celebrates the Holidays Through Support of the U.S. Marine Toys for Tots Foundation

The firm, which started a pilot program last year supporting the charity, dramatically expanded its client recognition program for the 2010 holiday season. Since its founding in 1947, the Toys for Tots program has raised over 400 million toys, and distributed them to over 188 million children.
