The twinning cities of Palermo and Monte Carlo may well say they gained a new symbol of their friendship: the Esimit Europa 2 yacht. The 30-meter maxi yacht, under the patronage of José Manuel Barroso, president of the European Commission, and with Gazprom as main sponsor, was the first one to cross the finish line of the 500-nautical-mile course.

The general manager of the Esimit Europa project, Igor Simcic, visited Cyprus once again with the view to meet the Cypriot Minister of Communications and Works, Dr. Erato Kozakou-Markoulli, as well as the Cypriot Foreign Minister, Mr. Markos Kyprianou. During his stay in Cyprus, Mr. Simcic also had the opportunity of meeting Dr. Andreas Moleskis, Head of the Secretariat of Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the EU, to further discuss the role of the Esimit Europa project in the Cypriot presidency of the Council of the EU in the second half of 2012.

New Course Record for Esimit Europa 2 at the Spectacular Barcolana Regatta

Esimit Europa 2 won the 42nd Barcolana regatta among the 1852 entrants and thousands of spectators and set a new record time of 56 minutes and 13 seconds on the 16.8-mile long course. The team’s success was endorsed by a crowd of a few hundred people at the Barcolana Village, which included top executives from leading European energy companies, such as Gazprom, Wintershall, Enel and Edison, who were invited to Trieste by the Esimit Europa project and its main sponsor Gazprom.
