Boaters Make Successful Descent of L.A. River in 52-mile Los Angeles River Expedition

A eclectic group of Angelenos successfully navigated kayaks and canoes down the full length of the 52-mile L.A. River (from headwaters to estuary) as part of the first-ever Los Angeles River Expedition 2008. The three-day exploratory expedition demonstrated that the whole river merits a determination as a "traditional navigable water" -- which would entitle the river to the highest standards of federal clean water protections under the Clean Water Act. The Army Corps of Engineers, however, still maintains that only 4 miles of the entire river can be considered traditionally navigable waters, and that boats are not allowed in the LA River, despite California public trust laws that do not support that notion. LA County considers the river a "flood control channel." (PRWeb Aug 1, 2008)

Humor and practical advice are a win-win combination, as the California news satire site, The LaLa Times (www.lalatimes.com), joins forces with Surviving L.A. (an information resource site for Los Angeles residents; www.survivingla.com). Though they're two diverse urban coping mechanisms, they both aim to supply Angelenos with better quality of life.
California Satire Site Partners with Los Angeles Web Design Company

California news satire site, The LaLa Times (http://www.lalatimes.com), has teamed up with Jungle 8 / creative (a full-service, Los Angeles-based marketing and visual design firm) to re-launch the popular Left Coast humor site with a new look and feel, and improved features. Citing a "satirical void," the two companies share a common purpose in the joint publishing venture. They also share a similar mission in terms of speaking to the absurdity of life in California, and about issues of hypocrisy, injustice and vanity. (PRWeb Oct 6, 2005)
