Dignitaries Come Together to Honor Participants in the Team Sarcoma Initiative

Ambassadors from Lithuania, Mexico, and New Zealand gathered with physicians and government representatives on July 24 in Washington, DC, to honor people dealing with sarcoma, a rare and dangerous cancer. The reception was a part of the global Team Sarcoma Initiative (TSI), a growing movement that involved more than 14,000 people in 14 countries last week.

A New Online Resource for Sarcoma Patients and Practitioners

This week, the Liddy Shriver Sarcoma Initiative introduced a comprehensive website to serve the global community affected by sarcoma, a rare cancer. The new SarcomaHelp.org became available on Monday, following months of work behind the scenes by volunteers. Among the features of the new site are more than 50 videos from doctors and nurses discussing current trends in diagnosis, treatment, and research. Many of the videos offer practical tips and guidance from professionals who have worked with sarcoma for decades.

8,000 People Join the Team Sarcoma Initiative to Fight a Rare Cancer

From its humble beginnings in 2003, when seven people who called themselves "Team Sarcoma" biked 200 miles in Louisiana, the Team Sarcoma Initiative has become an international movement. More than 8,000 people worldwide participated in this year's Initiative, surpassing the 3,400 who participated last year. Events in 14 countries were hosted by individuals, advocacy groups and medical centers seeking to raise awareness of sarcoma, a cancer that affects hundreds of thousands of people worldwide.

Patients, Survivors, and Caregivers Worldwide Band Together to Fight a Rare Cancer

Thousands of cancer patients, survivors, and caregivers will unite from July 12th-20th to increase public awareness of a rare cancer called sarcoma. They will wear wristbands that proclaim "Sarcoma Knows No Borders" as they participate in more than 65 events in 14 countries and 22 states. Each person who participates in these events has a story, and they are all a part of the international Team Sarcoma Initiative.
