North Carolina Adopts Code Council IgCC Rainwater Harvest Provisions

With water shortages looming in many parts of the U.S., building departments both at the state and local levels are leading the sustainability curve by enacting myriad water conservation measures. North Carolina, for example, is amending their codes to include the ICC’s rainwater collection and distribution provisions. Captured rainwater can be used for many purposes and offsets millions of gallons of what would otherwise be runoff water use each year.

ICC, WTO Draft of Global Toilet Design Guideline Ready for Public Comment

The concept of simple, standardized toilet design seems like a relatively straightforward and practical concept. But, to millions of people around the world with no access to basic sanitation, the difference between their municipalities being able to afford to install public toilets or not could mean the difference between life and death. The International Code Council and World Toilet Organization brought together the world’s sanitation leaders, which resulted in a draft of the Global Guideline to Practical Toilet Design. The document will result in a dramatic increase in restrooms in many nations, which will, no doubt, reduce the number of unnecessary deaths caused by improper sanitation conditions.

Indiana Chooses Code Council Plumbing Code to Promote Safe Construction

The International Code Council’s (ICC) Plumbing, Mechanical and Fuel Gas Group has been extremely busy over the past few months, supporting building departments that have chosen to update to the Code Council’s International Plumbing Code (IPC) from other outdated codes. The State of Indiana has just been added to its extensive list of recent accomplishments as it prepares to transition to the 2006 International Plumbing Code. Once the IPC is in place, it will complete Indiana’s adoption of core ICC codes.

Millions of people, largely children, die each year from waterborne illnesses.
